I've always had a lot of trouble finding a good place for StepMania themes, so I decided I'd try to make a website that would be incredibly simple to use and have basically everything you'd ever want for StepMania. Plus, I had a lot of left over bandwidth on my webhosting package that was just staring me in the face with nothing to do. So StepManiaThings was born, and since then I have put a lot of time into the site making sure that I have almost every single theme, noteskin, announcer, and character that there is.
The new version of StepManiaThings allows authors full control over their listings! If you'd like an author account so that you may upload and edit your own entries, send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I will get you setup with an account. You may also send me general questions/concerns about the website, but keep in mind I DO NOT provide support for specific downloads available on the site. Those questions should be directed to the author of that specific file.

Construction of website begins. At the time, laser123454321's site was a popular location for downloading StepMania add-ons. SMT started as a subdirectory of my main website, Merklo

SMComplete is released, allowing the download of every add-on available on SMT in one very large SMZIP file. It is made available via BitTorrent and direct download. The direct download eventually causes the site to go down due to bandwidth in October.
December 4th, 2005
Site is back online after being hit by a DDoS attack. The attack caused my current web host to suspend my service, ultimately causing me to switch hosts. In the switch I finally purcahsed stepmaniathings.com.

Site is redesigned to be easier to use, first major update in a while.

Turns out the PHP scripts I wrote to run the site back in 2005 were incredibly open to attack. A virus attached itself to the site and shutdown most of the downloads for quite some time. In patching the scripts I accidentally messed up the hotlinking detection causing even more isssues with downloads. Eventually everything is fixed. Total downtime still only about two weeks, the longest the site was ever unavailable.

First real update in over two years. The entire site is now run on Joomla! and almost all of the add-ons are updated to their newest versions. Other updates include the addition of the StepManiaThings Forum and the ability to preview every add-on before actually downloading it.

Another long overdue update, although only minor. This time around I have enabled authors to upload and manage their own listings in an attempt to keep all of the information on the site up to date. Also worth noting is an updated visual design for the site.
